Fireworks Safety Guidelines

At SunState Fireworks, safety is our top priority. We want every celebration to be enjoyable, responsible, and accident-free.
The following guidelines are provided to help customers use fireworks safely and in compliance with Florida laws.

1. Follow All Local Laws

Fireworks regulations vary by county and city.
Before using fireworks, always:

  • Check your local Orlando or Orange County restrictions

  • Only use consumer fireworks approved for personal use

  • Respect age restrictions — fireworks should only be used by responsible adults

If you are unsure whether a type of firework is legal, contact your local authorities before using it.

2. Adult Supervision Required

Fireworks should never be handled by children.
A responsible, sober adult must oversee every stage of firework use, including setup, lighting, and disposal.

3. Choose a Safe Location

Always set off fireworks in a clear, open area away from:

  • Houses, vehicles, and garages

  • Trees, dry grass, or flammable materials

  • Crowds or spectators

  • Pets and animals

Keep a safe distance from the fireworks once they are lit.

4. Have Safety Tools Ready

Before lighting any firework, make sure you have:

  • A bucket of water

  • A garden hose or fire extinguisher

  • A metal container for soaking used fireworks

  • A stable, flat surface for launching items like fountains or aerial devices

Preparation can prevent serious accidents.

5. Use Fireworks Properly

Do:

  • Read and follow all labeled instructions

  • Light fireworks one at a time

  • Stand to the side when lighting

  • Use protective eyewear

  • Keep unused fireworks in a cool, dry place

Do not:

  • Hold fireworks in your hand

  • Relight malfunctioning or “dud” fireworks

  • Lean over fireworks while lighting

  • Point fireworks toward people, homes, or vehicles

  • Mix alcohol and fireworks

If a firework doesn’t ignite, wait 15–20 minutes, then soak it in water.

6. Keep Pets Indoors

Fireworks can frighten animals.
To protect pets:

  • Keep them indoors in a quiet, secure area

  • Turn on a TV or fan to reduce loud noise

  • Never bring pets near active fireworks

7. Dispose of Fireworks Safely

After a firework has finished:

  1. Let it cool completely

  2. Soak used fireworks in a bucket of water

  3. Place them in a sealed trash bag

  4. Dispose of them according to local waste guidelines

Never dispose of hot or unexploded fireworks in household trash.

8. Weather Precautions

Avoid lighting fireworks during:

  • High winds

  • Extremely dry conditions

  • Storms or lightning

Wind can redirect sparks, and dry conditions increase fire risk.

9. Emergencies

If someone is injured or a fire occurs:

  • Call 911 immediately

  • Follow first-aid steps only if safe to do so

  • Do not handle explosive materials that didn’t ignite fully
